Artists-at-the-Farm is a program that provides studio space for creative people—visual artists, writers, and musicians—at a nominal fee. The studios are converted outbuildings at Heritage Farm in historic Langhorne Borough, Pennsylvania, and are available each year from mid-April to October 30.
The Artist at the Farm program brings together the worlds of local government, non-profit organizations, and art to create a supportive environment for artists who live in the area while at the same time making art more a part of the lives of the Langhorne residents.
The program is made possible by a coalition consisting of Langhorne Borough (which owns the park), Langhorne Open Space (which raised the money to purchase the park and which manages it today), Langhorne Council for the Arts (which screens applicants based on their artistic ability and finances minor studio upgrades), and the artists, themselves, who commit themselves not only to their art but also to participating in community art events and to providing the elbow grease and effort to make improvements to their studios. The program is coordinated by Carol Zetterberg who can be reached at (215) 757-4721
There are 4 parts to the application process:
A committee consisting of Board members from Langhorne Open Space (who manage the property) and Langhorne Council for the Arts review the application documents and then arrange an appointment time for applicants to come in for an interview.
The names of selected artists are then recommended to the Council of Langhorne Borough (which owns the park), which then reviews the applicants for approval. Upon approval by Borough Council, the applicant reads and signs a 3-page use permit, pays his membership fees to Langhorne Open Space, Inc., Langhorne Council for the Arts, and the use fee.
All Artists-at-the-Farm are members of Langhorne Open Space and Langhorne Council for the Arts, in keeping with the concept that the artists become a valued part of the life of the Langhorne community.
STUDIO ARTISTS
Artists who lease physical space in one of the farm's back buildings from Langhorne Borough and the Langhorne Arts Council.
Different types of studios are made available:
ALUMNI ARTISTS
Those who have been Artists-at-the-Farm in previous years and who have paid Alumni membership dues for the current year. These members are also invited to participate in the group’s Paint-outs, Artfests, meetings, etc.
